After a heart-wrenching two-parter, 'Castle' lightened things up this past Monday involving a dead man on Mars.
Sort of.
There was a dead man, but he just happened to be on a Mars simulation instead of the actual planet. None-the-less, Castle's enthusiasm was just as strong. The simulation did not allow for Beckett to take the four remaining 'astronauts' into the precinct, thus having to interrogate them within the 'ship'. With all security heavily locked down it seemed impossible for someone to go into the simulation, kill, then retreat. A hack was discovered but after digging, Beckett found it was simply to throw off the project by a jealous man whose wife broke up with him during her time in the simulation.
The simulation had a smart computer, which adapted and learned day-by-day. It was discovered that in fact a rover carried out the murder, holding a screwdriver and stabbing the victim with it. It was the computer, M.I.R.A, who was instructed to carry out such a heinous act. In a twist of events, the computer was programmed in the end to disobey its owner (a billionaire who had decided to start the simulation and land on Mars by 2018), eventually the system needed to be swiped. However, Castle and Beckett figured out there was no single killer, but instead the three remaining on the ship that had used each other as an alibi. It was discovered the fourth member was taking pictures for a rival and he had alibi'd out. A team murder was not expected and gave a refreshing twist to the mystery show.
Meanwhile, Castle and Beckett discover that their loft has become much too crowded. They arrive home in the opening scene to Alexis and her boyfriend David playing laser tag, along with Castle's mother Martha coming downstairs and introducing her new boyfriend Benjamin (who was donning Castle's favorite pajamas). Later in the episode Castle and Beckett have a romantic moment outside of their front door, and it is opened by Castle's daughter Alexis who is entertaining a few friends. The frustration seems to boil and Castle calls a family meeting. This ends up being purely Martha addressing Kate and Rick and she will be moving out and will start looking for places. Multiple references to future Castle children take place in this episode, which Are more than likely foreshadowing upcoming events.
The next episode does not air for another three weeks, and it shows a jealous Beckett who seems to have to compete with a woman who is just like her.
'CASTLE' airs every Monday on ABC at 10 PM ET.
