ABCFamily.com/TVEquals.com

This episode started with Melody wanting to talk to Bay about what happened after Lily had to tell her what happened at the party. She tells Bay that she has to report it to the IX Office and unfortunately the investigation will happen with or without Bay’s consent because Tank is a student at UMKC. Toby then gets mad when she finds out that Lily told Melody about what happened and tries to say that she was looking out for Bay or any other girl in her position.

Then, Melody goes to talk to the dorm about what happened at the party and that someone could have been sexually assaulted at the party and because of that, the Dean almost ended Melody’s deaf students program. Iris asks if the young lady is ok, to which Melody says she will be and that she has to go to another meeting about the situation that happened at the party, and then the students leave the meeting and asks who would do something. Tank comes out of the classrooms and sees Bay and Daphne in the garden and finds out that he’s been reported. He instantly thinks Bay did it, but then Bay tells him that Lily was the one who reported it after Toby told her what he and Toby talked about. Daphne steps in and tells Tank to back off when Tank starts to probe Bay for questions. He runs off, and Daphne tries to get Bay to focus on counting after she has a panic attack.

Meanwhile in California, Emmett and Skye are talking about movies and Skye tells him that her and her boyfriend broke up before she was able to go visit him. So, when Skye tries to plan a movie “date” Emmett declines and heads to class. After what happened at UMKC, Daphne and Regina are talking about what happened and Daphne doesn’t realize that Bay already talked to Regina and thinks that it’s the same person. Then, Regina and Kathryn talk about Regina hearing the two stories and decide they will confront Bay about what happened to her.

Bay tries to tell Emmett about what happened at the party, but when Emmett gets the wrong idea he throws his computer on the floor and then refuses to answer Bay’s Face Time calls when she tries to explain to him what happened. Kathryn and Regina talk to Bay about getting her ankle monitor off and then Regina brings up the story about Tess and asks her if it was her. Bay gets defensive, because she doesn’t want to talk about it but slips up and says “her” and it’s a drunken mistake. Kathryn and Regina then get really angry when they find out that it was Tank. Bay runs away and tries to text Emmett to no avail, and then Kathryn finds Bay and finds out that she had to tell Emmett and he only thinks that she cheated on him.

Kathryn then goes on to tell Bay about her own story, but Bay thinks that she’s trying to say that Bay is a victim and thinks that Kathryn just doesn’t understand. Emmett is furious after talking to Bay and goes to find Skye and set up the DVD watching date she wanted in the first place, not realizing that Bay was trying to say Tank forced her to have sex. Bay finds Daphne and they talk about how Emmett will not respond to Bay via text, Face Time, or any other means of communication which makes Daphne angry. Then, she realizes she still has a flight credit from her ticket to Washington DC and decides to fly out to Los Angeles and find Emmett and tell him the truth since Bay’s probation will not allow her to leave the state.

Daphne thinks that this is one major way that she can repay Bay for taking the fall for her, because after all if Bay wouldn’t have she’d be in Los Angeles and none of this would be happening. Kathryn tells John what happened and John immediately gets enraged and wants to go find Tank. He then leaves to go find Tank after Kathryn repeatedly asks him not to. At UMKC, Mary Beth finds Travis in his room and he tells her about the investigation and why he did not go to baseball practice. He then proceeds to tell her it was Bay and he feels horrible because he didn’t look out for her. Mary Beth asks him how he knew he was supposed to look out for Bay if he thought she was having a good time.

They proceed to get into an argument after Mary Beth says that Bay should not have drunk so much that she almost blacked out and put herself in that situation which immediately infuriates Travis and Mary Beth storms out. John finds Tank and tells him to give him a reason why he shouldn’t kick Tank’s ass and that it falls on Tank to be in control. Tank then says that he could have hung her out to dry when Bay took the morning after pill, but he didn't because he cares about her.

Emmett and Skye talk about her breakup when the movie ends and laugh about the reasons they are there. Then, when the doorbell rings Emmett sees Daphne staying in his doorway. Back in Kansas City, Bay is reading comments on the article about herself and Regina tells her to stop looking at it and that it isn’t true what they are saying. Bay starts to think that she is a slut, and Regina tells her that she needs to hold onto the truth instead of believing what everyone else says.

Regina sees how upset Bay is and decides to pay Melody a visit with the comments on the article, and is enraged and asks Melody to tell her how they know it is Bay. Melody then tells Regina that she has to follow the procedures for this kind of thing and that they didn’t release Bay’s name. Melody also says that she is upset too and that she doesn’t want to have to do this, which makes Regina apologize and they talk about what to do to help Bay.

In California, Daphne tries to tell Emmett what happened to Bay and to talk to her but Emmett won’t until Daphne tells him that Bay was raped. Emmett then realizes that he’s been going about everything all wrong. Regina tells Bay that she is going to get the comments removed and that Alexis is here from the student crisis center at UMKC. Alexis tells Bay they are just going to talk and that Bay can tell her to leave at any moment and she doesn’t have to talk if she doesn’t want to. Inside the main Kennish house, Kathryn is looking out the window when Regina comes in and they get into an argument when Kathryn finds out that Regina not Bay has asked Alexis over. Kathryn tells Regina that she wasn’t helping, even though Regina wanted to help. Alexis tells Bay that alcohol does not confuse what happened to her.

Bay goes into the house to tell Regina and Kathryn that she doesn’t want Alexis there and she doesn’t want to help UMKC. Kathryn follows Bay and finds her in her room, and they talk about how Bay feels like everyone is talking for her so she doesn’t know what to think. Kathryn then proceeds to tell Bay about a situation that she went through at the age of 17 and that she didn’t ever tell anyone about it and that Bay needs to speak for herself.

Toby comes by the house to apologize to Bay and tells Bay that Lily shouldn’t have told UMKC about what happened at the party. Bay tells Toby that she has to go tell Tank something in person, and then Travis punches someone in his dorm who is talking badly about Bay. Emmett asks Daphne how Bay is and Daphne says that she’s having a really hard time and that Bay is scared that Emmett will never speak to her again. A very understandably upset Emmett then tells Daphne that he shouldn’t have yelled at Bay and wonders what he can do or say to help Bay. This seems to be the first real connection they have had since the season started.

Bay confronts Tank and tells him that she is going to talk to the interviewer and that she wants him to hear from her that she’s going to the university. They fight when she asks him if he knew he was doing something wrong when they had sex. Then, he has the nerve to beg her not to go to the interviewer. Travis meets Melody in her office to talk about the fight with the guy in his dorm, and he tells her it won’t happen again. Travis then tells Melody how badly he feels about what happened and how he feels he wasn’t a good friend to Bay. Melody tells Travis that it wasn’t his fault either what happened to Bay, and Toby apologizes to Lily for yelling at her and Lily says that she let her “sense of duty” get the better of her and is concerned that the Kennish’s will resent her for doing what she did.

Bay comes home and John finds her and that she doesn’t have to avoid him because he loves her and he is her father and he is there to protect her. He also says he only needs to know if Bay wants him to and that he loves her no matter what. Bay seems really able to finally show some emotion after holding it in for so long.

The next day, Regina, John, and Kathryn accompany Bay to the Title IX office so she can tell the investigator her side. They talk about whether or not she decides to go home and Bay decides instead to talk to the interviewer. They have a long discussion about the situation and her desire to tell the truth. When the interviewer asks her what the truth is, Bay admits she did not look out for herself and made bad decisions and that Tank made bad choices too. She also doesn’t feel that blame should be put on just one person, and the interviewer tells her that is in fact not the case.

She also says that Tank wouldn’t intentionally hurt her, but that she thinks what he did was wrong and that it shouldn’t have happened. The interviewer tries to clarify, and Bay says that she wasn’t ok with what happened, but doesn’t want Tank to be kicked out of college. Tank and Bay text back and forth and when she asks him what happens and he says that he has been expelled from UMKC. She feels awful about it, then Daphne returns and she asks what Emmett said and he appears in her house and that’s how the episode ends.

Reflection on the episode:

The reflection of this episode is really hard to write knowing someone who has been through something like this and open to many people’s own opinions as to what happens. However, with that being said, Bay is extremely strong for being willing to confront Tank and tell him that she is going to the interviewer. She is also very strong for being willing to go talk to the interviewer the way she did. Regina, Kathryn, and John are all trying to help in different ways, but the feelings they have of helplessness come through in the episode. Daphne and Bay seem to be getting over the issues between them when Daphne decides to volunteer to go talk to Emmett and Bay seems truly relieved when she sees Emmett at the end of the episode.

This storyline plays out in more episodes, so it will be interesting to see the fallout of what happened to include Tank being expelled from UMKC after Bay’s interview. Also, it is hopeful that Bay can finally work through the issues she is facing now that this is out in the open.
