Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Ye Who Enter Here" Review

This weeks episode was exactly what many fans of the Marvel Universe were looking for. We get an action packed episode that brought into light for the first time in the MCU the Kree race when it is confirmed by Raina that they’re the ones who built the city the team is searching for. This is going to fuel the speculation that the obelisk and Skye are both of Inhuman origin.

When Raina informs Skye of an old tale her grandmother would repeat about blue angels visiting their ancestors that the people called Kree. This is the first mentioning of the Kree in the MCU by anyone on earth, Guardians haven’t crossed paths with earth yet, this is another arrow pointing in the direction that Skye is Inhuman. The Kree created the Inhumans during caveman times by genetic experimentation on humans. Raina tells Skye that the obelisk is designed to scan the DNA of those that touch it and determine who is “worthy”. This could mean that it looks for people with Inhuman blood and then tries to lead them to the lost city.

After all this information is shared with Skye, Ward makes his return to the show felt when he uses a Hydra team to take over the bus and capture both Raina and Skye. He tells Skye that he is taking her to fulfill his promise that he would lead her to her dad. When Whitehall hears of Ward’s actions he is initially pleased with the results but upon learning that Ward left the bus intact instead of shooting it down he orders Hydra to destroy it.

Fitz and Simmons are led to a field mission by Director Coulson and are forced into tight quarters with Mack and Bobbi. When Coulson and Bobbi go out to try and find the entry point to the lost city Mack decides to leave Fitz and Simmons alone on board the quinjet in an effort to push them towards reconciliation. Fitz tells Simmons that he is leaving the lab to go work with Mack because he can’t work around her any longer. Simmons doesn’t have a chance to get a word in during the conversation but she is very emotional and teary eyed. Early in the episode Simmons confides in Bobbi that she has never looked at Fitz other than as a best friend but she couldn’t imagine life without him. The leaves Fitz currently in the MCU’s biggest friend zone ever.

Once at the entry site to the Lost City, Mack has to enter a hole in the floor to check on electronic equipment that went out of whack once they went down hole. Once on the ground in the hole Mack has a blue energy pass over his body and goes into a rage against the rest of the team present at the top of the hole.

The episode finally gives us a little closure as to what type of alien SHIELD had in storage for the Tahiti project and edges us closer to an Inhuman tie in for the show. The Inhumans will be introduced on the silver screen in the future and it appears Marvel will use its TV show as a way to introduce the Inhumans origin and build hype for the movie. Also a noteworthy moment from the show was a dialogue between Bobbi and Mack on the quinjet about bringing Hunter in on something the two of them are obviously working on. Bobbi says that she will not mention it to him and doesn’t want him involved so that should be an interesting story line to follow over the next few episodes.

Episode Rating: 9
