Just as predicted in VAVEL_USA’s previous The Walking Dead recap, Bob reveals to Gareth and the rest of the Terminians that he has a bite on his shoulder, and the meat they are eating is tainted.
In the meantime, Sasha, Rick, and Tyreese are scouring the woods outside the church, looking for Bob, Daryl, and Carol. When they don’t find any of them, Sasha and Rick charge into the church and fault Father Gabriel for the disappearance of their people.
Rick forces Gabriel to reveal his secret, and he does. As once again predicted in the last recap, Gabriel tells Rick that he locked people outside of his church and allowed them to be killed, but he felt really terrible for his actions.
While Gabriel's guilt fest is going on, the group spots a body lying on the grass outside the church. They jolt outside and find Bob, with one leg and blood trickling down his mouth. Bob lets the group know that Gareth is out there and has five others with him. He also tells them that Daryl and Carol drove off, which is something Bob learned from Gareth earlier in the episode. Lastly, he shows the group his bite.
Moments later, Abraham Ford suggests that they leave for D.C. right away, but Rick objects. Abraham tells Rick that he will take Father Gabriel’s bus and leave with Rosita and Eugene, and this time Glenn objects. After arguing back-and-forth for a while, Glenn makes a deal with Abraham. He tells the Sargent that he, Maggie, and Tara will go with him only if he stays one more day and helps them fend off Gareth's group. Abraham agrees.
An enraged Rick gears up to go find Gareth and his crew to murder them. He, Sasha, Abraham, Michonne, Maggie, Tara, and Glenn set off into the woods, while Tyreese, Carl, Eugene, Rosita, Father Gabriel, and Baby Judith remain in the church, hiding in Gabriel's office room. All of sudden, Gareth and the Terminians make their way into the church, knowing that Rick and some of the others had left the building to go look for them.
While Gareth and his group stand outside the room that Tyreese and the others had locked themselves in, Rick returns to the church with his team and immediately shoots two of Gareth’s people in the head. He later demands Gareth and the couple others to drop their weapons, and they follow his orders.
After Gareth tries to compromise with Rick, Rick slashes Gareth with his machete and hacks him to death. The machete Rick uses to brutally murder Gareth is the one he promised he would kill him with in the first episode of the season – the one with the red handle. Michonne, Abraham, and Sasha finish off the rest of Gareth’s troops, and Michonne is reunited with her sword. It turns out one of the Terminians was carrying it with her, so Michonne takes it back after killing her.
After terminating the Terminus group, Rick and the others say their final, tearful goodbyes to Bob. Tyreese gains courage and offers to put a knife through Bob’s head once he stops breathing.
The episode concludes with Tara, Glenn, and Maggie leaving to D.C. with Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene in the bus, and Michonne finding Daryl in the woods.
Where does the group go from here? In the sneak peek for next week’s episode, we get to see glimpses of Beth, and Daryl may possibly know where she is. Maybe the crew saddles up to rescue Beth, whose whereabouts will finally be revealed.
There is not much to work with as the sneak peek revealed very little. However, tonight’s episode was satisfying because ruthless Rick viciously slayed Gareth and got his revenge. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Bob, who had become a part of the family.
