A few days before its season five premier, the most highly-rated TV show in cable television history, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a sixth season.

We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe,” AMC President Charlie Collier said. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort,” Collier added.

Scott M. Gimple, as the series’ showrunner and executive producer, and Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, and Tom Luse, as executive producers, will all return for season six.

The Walking Dead’s ratings have gone up significantly this past year due to a successful season four. The TV series has racked up an all-time high with over 30 million Facebook fans and 2.7 million Twitter followers.

Season five premiers October 12 at 9/8c, followed by the premier of Talking Dead at 10/9c with host Chris Hardwick. The Talking Dead will have Scott Gimple, Greg Nicotero, and Conan O’Brien as its guests this week.
