Samsung has released their new line of smart watches, featuring two separate watches, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic.
Both watches feature 1.2-inch AMOLED displays with resolutions of 360 x 360. They run on a dual-core 1.0 GHz processor and feature 4gb of internal memory.
Both watches also feature Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. The WiFi connectivity alongside the release of a cellular edition of the new watches suggests that they will be able to run independently from a phone.
As for sensors, both watches feature an accelerometer, a gyroscope, heart rate monitor and barometer that all feed into either S Health - Samsung's independent health tracking app - or Nike+ Running. However, the watch doesn't feature GPS, which makes for less available features for Nike+ Running.
The WiFi models feature a 250 mAh battery and the cellular model a 300 mAh model that Samsung promises will provide 2-3 days of life.
The Classic features a black body with a leather band and weighs in at 42g while also measuring in at 39.9 x 43.6mm.
The standard model comes in two color options, one with a white band and silver body, and another with a dark gray band and body. It measures in at 42 x 42mm.
The cellular version is slightly thicker, but we aren't sure how much so at this time.
As for app availability, it'll likely remain the same as the previous watches in the series with low variety. App developers are more likely to make apps for watches that run on major OSes, such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear, rather than for two watches that run on a separate, smaller OS, such as Samsung Gear, which runs on Samsung's independent OS, Tizen.
Pricing and availability questions will be answered when it appears at the IFA Show between September 4 and 9.
