I think we can all agree that one of the most annoying things on our iPhones is the fact that our storage is being taken up by unused apps such as the Apple Watch app, Stocks, Game Center, and Tips. However, according to an interview between Apple CEO Tim Cook and BuzzFeed, this may not be the case for long.
In the interview, the lack of control on the user's end was brought up. He reveals that if these were able to be removed, it could cause problems within the OS. For example, it would be hard to make it possible to delete Stocks, as it is directly linked to features such as Notification Center and Siri.
He did acknowledge that every app isn't necessary and signaled intentions to change the permanency of some apps in the future.
"Over time, .... we'll figure out a way [for them to be removable]," said Tim Cook. "It's not that we want to suck up your real estate, we're not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy. So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it's something we're looking at."
Deleting pre-loaded apps would make life MUCH easier on iPhone users. After all, deleting unused apps IS the first step to freeing up space on your iPhone. This could make the 16GB iPhone more valuable, and get make it less necessary to avoid the 16GB iPhone.
Now that Apple fans have gotten an answer to this question, there's another question on our minds- when will we see the availability to set third-party apps as defaults?
This would make it easier on Apple to make pre-loaded apps deleteable, and it would also make a plethora of more things available, such as changing the default web browser to Chrome, or making the default email app Gmail. This would open up a world of new customization options, and we hope to see it on the already-anticipated iOS 10.
