Rumor: No iPhone 6C?

Timothy Arcuri, an analyst with Cowen and Company, stated recently that Apple has decided against producing the rumored iPhone 6C.

Rumors claimed that Apple would release a 4-inch iPhone 6C after an uproar over the 6 and 6 Plus both being too big and stories being released claiming many people refused to upgrade despite the plethora of new capabilities that would be gained by the user.

Arcuri says he saw evidence of the device in Apple's supply chain between February and March, but that evidence has since disappeared from Apple. He believes they may have scrapped their plans to prevent any competition between a cheaper iPhone with their larger, more expensive iPhones.

"I think one of the reasons is because the iPhone 6 has sold so well, said Arcuri. "And they said 'Look, why would we want to cannibalize? If we came out with an iPhone 6C, we would essentially cannibalize a price-reduced iPhone 6.'"

So basically, it all boils down to profit, and it makes sense.

Rumors of the iPhone 6C stem from the iPhone 5C, which was released with the iPhone 5S that preceded the current generation of Apple's incredibly popular line of smartphones. The next iPhone is expected to be the 6S, so it would make sense it they were to release an iPhone 6C.

Key features that were released with the 5C that were expected with the 6C include more color options, an option for 8gb of storage, and the cheaper pricing option.

These rumors contrast with rumors from popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo back in April. He said that despite rumors of the 4-inch iPhone 6C, it was quite possible that it would not arrive until September 2016.
