The day finally has come to where we find out who will matchup against each other in a much anticipated Worlds Tournament. Each number 1 seed, CLG, Fnatic, SKT, and LGD, all were placed in a groups A-D. So who will they have to face to move on through the group stage?
Group A
Counter Logic Gaming, YOE Flash Wolves, KOO Tigers, Pain Gaming
Group B
Fnatic, Invictus Gaming, AHQ, Cloud 9
Group C
Sk Telecom T1, H2K, EDG, Bangkok Titans
Group D
LGD Gaming, KT Rolster, Team Solo Mid, Origen
A further preview for this tournament will come shortly, but some rapid reactions include chat spamming "RIP H2K" when EDG was drawn into Group C. These groups are very interesting for a couple reasons.
CLG has the potential to make it out of their group. In what some would consider the most balanced and strong Chinese scene yet, CLG lucked out and assuming they don't choke, can realistically get a number 1 or 2 seed out of this stage. Cloud 9 on the other hand, might as well pray for their lives. They were shoved into the second-best group. Fnatic, Invictus, and AHQ are all far ahead of C9 but it does make an interesting, yet difficult, road for Fnatic. Fnatic can get out of groups, but it won't be easy.
Group C is solid. Arguably the top 2 teams in 1 group makes it fantastic. The mid-lane play will be especially great considering we have 3 Korean mid-laners in Faker, PawN, and Ryu. The big-play potential is there. The interesting part about groups is that, if EDG and SKT both advance, 1 or 2 seed, they won't meet again until the Championship because each 1 and 2 team get put in opposite sides. That makes a little bit of a preview for a potential Worlds Championship.
Group D looks like LGD and KT will get through. TSM and Origen both have upset potential, but it will take a lot as LGD looks to make a run at the Championship and KT is a solid team.
This tournament could not get any more exciting. So many headlines, so many potential matchups, October can't come soon enough!
